Cyclades & Dodecanese
Naxos after dark
Naxos is the largest Cycladic island and runs at a deliberately low-key nightlife tempo compared to Mykonos or Ios — which is exactly why people pick it. The action is on the Chora waterfront and around the Old Market: cocktail bars built into the Venetian Kastro walls, fish tavernas with live Greek music, a couple of small clubs. The beach scene (Agios Prokopios, Agia Anna, Plaka) runs daytime beach bars but few full-on parties. The Portara — the marble doorway on the islet by the harbour — is the sunset meeting point for the whole island. Quieter, cheaper and more family-oriented than its Cycladic neighbours.
